Specialized Treatment Foster
Care Program
OVERVIEW
The Alabama Clinical Schools treatment model is a very holistic
approach to the treatment of sexually reactive behaviors. We have
developed a therapeutic milieu that addresses all aspects of the
children behavioral, psychiatric, social, leisure and recreational,
medical and family. Treatment is based upon the individual needs of
each child and cognitive-behavioral treatment interventions are used
to change the thinking, emotions, and behavior responses of sexually
reactive youth. We believe that by placing children in Specialized
Treatment Foster Care homes we will be able to reach these youths in
timely manner before inappropriate sexual behavior begins.
The program has been built upon the following beliefs:
- Early treatment intervention with sexually
troubled youth helps achieve successful outcomes.
- Treatment must be individually tailored and
attended to all aspects of the child.
- Deviant patterns of sexual arousal can be
eliminated through sex offense-specific treatment practices.
- Relapse prevention skills must be developed
to assist sexually abusive youth with identifying abuse cycles
as well as with adapting to high-risk situations with learned
and practiced coping skills.
