Residential Treatment Center
for Sexually Abusive Youth
Specialty Program for Boys with Cognitive Delays
OVERVIEW
The Alabama Clinical Schools treatment model uses a very holistic
approach to the treatment of sexually abusive and sexually reactive
behaviors. We have developed a therapeutic milieu that addresses all
aspects of the needs of the residents – behavioral, psychiatric,
social, daily living, leisure and recreation, medical and family.
Treatment is based upon the individual/developmental needs of each
youth. A variety of treatment modalities are used to increase a
resident’s foundation and use of healthy skills to promote success.
The program has been built upon the following beliefs:
- Early treatment intervention with sexually
troubled youth helps achieve successful outcomes.
- Treatment must be individually tailored and
attend to all aspects of the resident.
- Deviant patterns of sexual arousal can be
eliminated through sex offense-specific treatment practices.
- Relapse prevention skills must be developed
to assist sexually troubled youth with identifying abuse cycles
as well as with adapting to high-risk situations with learned
and practiced coping skills.
- The involvement of family members and/or an
identified support system is an essential component of
treatment.
